Link The NBN’s move to reduce wholesale prices is being passed on to some customers. TPG was the first to move on pricing after the announcement, reducing the cost of its 50 Mbps plan to that of itse 25 Mbps plan, before scrapping the lower-speed option altogether. This includes its brands iiNet and Internode. Now, it is increasing bandwidth, with TPG customers to see increases to their speed during high-congestion time periods within the next 48 hours, TPG chief operating officer Craig Levy said. There are concerns among some industry members that low-tier plans at 12 Mbps catering to households on a budget could be completely removed. NBN Co flagged plans to make this a voice-only product in its pricing review. NBN chief executive Bill Morrow has previously said the 12 Mbps product was originally designed to be voice only. Vodafone has a three-month free offer for new NBN customers that expires at the end of January.

You may have heard of 8-minute dating or speed dating, where people meet for an evening full of 8-minute dates. Each person talks to someone for 8 minutes and then move on to the next person. Eight minutes is a long time in the classroom, so we’ll call this ice breaker a 2-minute mixer.

Higher mental functions, including intelligence and creativity and wisdom Styles of thinking Leadership Love and hate Sternberg has proposed a triarchic theory of intelligence and a triangular theory of love. He is the creator with Todd Lubart [25] of the investment theory of creativity, which states that creative people buy low and sell high in the world of ideas, and a propulsion theory of creative contributions, which states that creativity is a form of leadership.

He spearheaded an experimental admissions process at Tufts to quantify and test the creativity, practical skills, and wisdom-based skills of an applicant. Sternberg has criticized IQ tests , saying they are “convenient partial operationalizations of the construct of intelligence , and nothing more. They do not provide the kind of measurement of intelligence that tape measures provide of height.

Triarchic theory of intelligence Many descriptions of intelligence focus on mental abilities such as vocabulary , comprehension , memory and problem-solving that can be measured through intelligence tests. This reflects the tendency of psychologists to develop their understanding of intelligence by observing behavior believed to be associated with intelligence. Sternberg believes that this focus on specific types of measurable mental abilities is too narrow.

He believes that studying intelligence in this way leads to an understanding of only one part of intelligence and that this part is only seen in people who are “school smart” or “book smart”. There are, for example, many individuals who score poorly on intelligence tests, but are creative or are “street smart” and therefore have a very good ability to adapt and shape their environment.

According to Sternberg , giftedness should be examined in a broader way incorporating other parts of intelligence. The triarchic model[ edit ] Sternberg categorizes intelligence into three parts, which are central in his theory: Analytical intelligence, the ability to complete academic, problem-solving tasks, such as those used in traditional intelligence tests.

Interactions of an object with another object can be explained and predicted using the concept of forces, which can cause a change in motion of one or both of the interacting objects. An individual force acts on one particular object and is described by its strength and direction. The strengths of forces can be measured and their values compared. What happens when a force is applied to an object depends not only on that force but also on all the other forces acting on that object.

A static object typically has multiple forces acting on it, but they sum to zero. If the total vector sum force on an object is not zero, however, its motion will change.

Abstract While technology affords new opportunities and benefits for educators in their teaching practice, a significant number of faculty are resistant to adopting new technologies. Adopting the Technology Acceptance Model TAM as a framework, this paper argues that one of the greatest challenges facing business schools and Higher Education Institutions HEIs in the 21st century is not new technologies themselves, but the ability of educators to embrace educational technologies. Drawing on the qualitative data to emerge from interviews with accounting educators recognised as exemplary in their use of innovative technologies, this paper explores the reasons for lack of faculty uptake and argues for academics to become innovators rather than inhibitors.

The findings offer a timely insight into a twenty-first century issue affecting HEIs and, specifically, accounting academics. While carried out in the Accounting discipline, the findings may be relatable and applicable to all disciplines. A suite of recommendations are proposed for institutions, business schools and academics to consider.

The Universities of California and Berkeley in the USA and the Universities of Bristol and Manchester in the UK were amongst the first to adopt a speed-dating model of overcoming this problem of isolation in higher education.

How do they decide who matches up with who? Sometimes, the process is very simple. Each profile has a list of attributes or interests that members check off. Some sites, like match. Each matching attribute is assigned a different weight depending on how important it is to the user. For example, if you prefer blondes, but really have nothing against brunettes and redheads, then you can rank that attribute as very low. Then the site will match you with highly educated brunette sooner than a blonde who didn’t finish high school.

Some sites use very complex personality surveys and mathematical algorithms to match partners. Online matchmaking site eharmony. Obviously, the dating sites claim they do. When you multiply the chance for inaccuracy by the number of users on a given dating site, complicated matching systems are probably not working much better than basic attribute-and-interest matching. Fortunately, the main advantage of online dating is that it gives each user control over who they contact and with whom they subsequently communicate.

It might take more work than relying on the site’s matching system, but browsing through profiles yourself may ultimately be the best way to find the right person. Specific facts and figures for online dating are hard to come by.

Do you read aloud to your students? Is there ever a time when students are too old to be read to? Many teachers are firm believers in reading aloud—even at the upper grade levels! I would settle down Sometimes her voice put me to sleep; sometimes, on the contrary, it made me feverish with excitement, and I urged her on in order to find out, more quickly than the author had intended, what happened in the story.

But most of the time I simply enjoyed the luxurious sensation of being carried away by the words, and felt, in a very physical sense, that I was actually travelling somewhere wonderfully remote, to a place that I hardly dared glimpse on the secret last page of the book. Later on, when I was nine or ten, I was told by my school principal that being read to was suitable only for small children. I believed him, and gave up the practice Teachers have read aloud to young children for centuries.

We know that time spent reading aloud is valuable to them. We have watched pre-readers listen to a story, then capture the book itself to look at again and again. Sometimes they memorized the story, shared it with their friends, and at times even slept with the book. I sometimes shared picture books with kindergarten classes without showing the illustrations. Children paid close attention, listening more carefully since there were no pictures to tell the story for them.

American railways High-speed railroading. America’s system of rail freight is the world’s best. High-speed passenger trains could ruin it.

Eat one of those and your tummy will curl right up! Seriously speaking, a favorite attack on radiometric dating involves dangling “horror stories” about gross errors before the reader, thus giving the impression that radiometric dating is totally unreliable. Woodmorappe , with his collection of some bad radiometric dates, must surely be the master of that technique.

Upon being presented with claims that radiometric dating is totally erroneous, a question naturally arises: If radiometric geochronology is half as bad as Woodmorappe’s list suggests, then how in the world did geologists ever arrive at a tight consensus for the official dates? Look at the various radiometric tables in use over the last 20 years or so and you will find, at least for the fossil-bearing strata, a remarkably tight agreement. Did the geochronologists throw darts to determine the accepted dates?

Matson, , p. Dalrymple, an expert in radiometric dating with lots of hands-on experience, puts the percentage of bad dates at only percent. Thus, we clear away the first illusion spun by creationism, namely that most of the dates are bad, that the radiometric picture is totally chaotic. In fact, it is not at all unusual for several different radiometric methods to agree within a few percentage points on a date.

Peter Augustine Lawler Spring Education is a perennial human good, and its decadence today comes, most of all, from neglecting its proper purposes. One of those purposes, of course, is to prepare free persons to compete effectively in the global competitive marketplace, and the evidence is abundant that our colleges and universities are failing us on that front. But another purpose, especially associated with higher education, is to help us understand who we are as more than free and productive beings.

And on that front, most of our institutions of higher education seem even more inept.

Each team of higher education students then had five minutes to tell a mentor about their project. At the end of five minutes the teams moved to another mentor. The mentors noted which teams they wanted to work with and teams which mentors, so they can be matched up.

Their endowment by a prince or monarch and their role in training government officials made early Mediterranean universities similar to Islamic madrasas , although madrasas were generally smaller, and individual teachers, rather than the madrasa itself, granted the license or degree. It is possible, however, that the development of cathedral schools into universities was quite rare, with the University of Paris being an exception. In the early medieval period , most new universities were founded from pre-existing schools, usually when these schools were deemed to have become primarily sites of higher education.

Many historians state that universities and cathedral schools were a continuation of the interest in learning promoted by monasteries.
